Privacy & POPIA
This Privacy & POPIA notice explains how Car Batteries 24/7 handles personal information submitted when you contact us or request battery assistance. We aim to collect only information reasonably needed to understand the request, communicate with you, assess service suitability and keep appropriate business records.
Information we may collect
Depending on how you contact us, we may collect your name, cellphone number, WhatsApp number, email address, preferred contact method, current suburb or location, vehicle make and model, vehicle year, engine or fuel details where supplied, battery or starting symptoms, service requested, safety information and any additional notes that you voluntarily provide.
Why we use personal information
We use personal information to review and respond to assistance requests, communicate with you about the request, confirm whether the location and vehicle fall within the service scope, identify likely battery requirements, arrange follow-up, maintain appropriate operational records and deal with reasonable customer-service or compliance requirements.
Consent and contact permission
The assistance request asks you to confirm that Car Batteries 24/7 may use the details to respond to the request and may contact you by the selected communication methods. Where consent is the basis for processing, you may withdraw that consent, subject to any lawful processing that has already taken place or another lawful basis that may apply.
Storage, retention and security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. Request records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which they were collected, for legitimate business administration, or where retention is required or permitted by applicable law. Access to request records is limited to authorised people who need the information for the relevant business purpose.
Sharing and service providers
Personal information may be processed by service providers that support communications, hosting, security or other business operations where this is reasonably necessary to provide the requested service. We do not use assistance-request information for unrelated marketing without an appropriate basis or permission. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
Your Privacy & POPIA rights
Subject to applicable law and appropriate identity verification, you may ask whether we hold personal information about you, request access to relevant information, ask for inaccurate information to be corrected, or request deletion or object to processing where the law provides for it. You may also raise a privacy concern with Car Batteries 24/7 so that the matter can be reviewed.
Information Regulator South Africa
POPIA is overseen by the Information Regulator South Africa. If you believe your personal information has been handled unlawfully, you may obtain guidance or complaint information from the Information Regulator South Africa.

DETAILED PRIVACY GUIDEMore detail about privacy and POPIAOpen this guide for additional detail, FAQs and supporting information.

Privacy Principles for Assistance Requests
Privacy matters because a mobile battery request can include personal contact information, vehicle details and a location. Car Batteries 24/7 aims to use information for a clear operational purpose: reviewing the request, communicating with the customer, checking the likely battery requirement, confirming the service area and arranging assistance where appropriate.
Information should be relevant to the request. Customers are not expected to provide passwords, banking credentials, identity documents or unrelated sensitive personal information simply to request a battery quote or mobile assistance.
POPIA and Purpose Limitation
POPIA promotes responsible processing of personal information. Information collected for a battery-assistance request should be used for the purposes connected with that request and for reasonable legal, administrative or record-keeping requirements. Where another purpose would require a different lawful basis or permission, it should not simply be assumed from the original request.
The amount of information collected should also be proportionate. Vehicle make, model, year, location and starting symptoms can be useful for the service; unrelated personal history is not.
Privacy When Sharing a Live Location
A live location or map pin can help confirm whether the vehicle falls within the operating area and where the technician needs to go. Location information should be used for the assistance request and handled as personal information. If a suburb is sufficient for an initial quote, the exact location does not need to be supplied earlier than necessary.
Where a customer shares a location through a third-party messaging or mapping service, that provider may also process data under its own terms and privacy practices. Customers can choose the communication method they are comfortable using.
Privacy for Vehicle and Battery Photographs
A clear photograph of a battery label can sometimes help identify battery technology, capacity or rating. Customers should avoid including unrelated people, documents, house numbers or other private information in the image where it is not required. The purpose of the photograph is to assist with the battery request.
If images are retained with the service record, access should be limited to authorised people who need them for the relevant business purpose and they should not be kept longer than reasonably necessary.
POPIA Access, Correction and Deletion Requests
Subject to applicable law and appropriate identity verification, a person may ask whether relevant personal information is held, request access, ask for inaccurate information to be corrected, or request deletion or object to processing where the law provides for that right. A request may need enough detail to identify the relevant service record without exposing additional unnecessary information.
Not every deletion request necessarily overrides a lawful retention requirement. Some records may need to be retained for legitimate business, tax, warranty, dispute or legal reasons. Where a request cannot be completed exactly as asked, the reason should be explained where appropriate.
Privacy and Communication Preferences
Customers may communicate by telephone, WhatsApp or email depending on the request and the contact details supplied. Permission to contact a customer about the active service request does not automatically mean unrelated marketing messages should be sent indefinitely. Communication preferences and any withdrawal of consent should be respected where applicable.
Operational messages can include questions needed to identify the battery, confirmation of a quote, service-area checks, arrival coordination or follow-up connected with the work requested.
POPIA Security Safeguards
Reasonable technical and organisational safeguards should be used to reduce the risk of unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure. Measures can include limiting access to authorised staff, protecting website and email accounts, using reputable service providers, maintaining software and retaining information only for an appropriate period.
No website, email system or messaging service can be guaranteed completely risk-free. Customers should therefore avoid sending information that is not needed for the battery service.
Privacy and Third-Party Service Providers
Website hosting, email delivery, communications, security and other technical services can involve third-party providers. Where those providers process personal information on behalf of the business, the processing should be connected with a legitimate operational purpose and handled with appropriate safeguards.
Car Batteries 24/7 may also disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. The fact that a provider supports the website does not make customer information available for unrestricted unrelated use.
Privacy of Children and Unnecessary Sensitive Information
The battery-assistance service is not designed to collect children's personal information or special personal information as a normal part of a service request. Customers should not submit health information, identity numbers, financial credentials or other sensitive information unless there is a genuine and lawful reason connected with the request.
If unnecessary information is received, reasonable steps should be taken to avoid using it for an unrelated purpose and to handle it appropriately.
Privacy Questions and the Information Regulator
Questions about privacy or personal information submitted to Car Batteries 24/7 can be sent to info@carbatteries247.co.za. Official information about POPIA and complaint processes is available from the Information Regulator South Africa.
For service information rather than a privacy request, visit the mobile car battery services page or the service areas and contact page. This keeps service enquiries and privacy enquiries directed to the most useful route.
Keeping This Privacy Notice Current
This privacy notice may be updated as systems, service providers, operational processes or legal requirements change. The version published on the website should reflect the current approach. Material changes that affect existing information should be considered in the context of the reason the information was originally collected and any applicable legal obligations.
Customers can revisit this page when making a new service request. The purpose is to explain the handling of personal information in clear language while preserving the practical information needed to respond to a mobile battery enquiry.
Privacy During Website Form Submissions
When a customer submits the assistance form, privacy considerations apply to the information entered into each step. The form is intended to collect enough detail to identify the request, understand the vehicle and location, respond to the customer and maintain an appropriate service record. Required fields should remain limited to information that has a genuine operational purpose.
Customers should review the information before submission and avoid placing unrelated confidential material in free-text notes.
POPIA and Accurate Personal Information
POPIA includes principles relating to information quality. Customers can help by providing current contact details and accurate vehicle or location information. If information changes before the service is completed, the customer can update the team so the request is handled using the correct details.
If an error is identified in a retained record, a correction can be requested subject to reasonable verification and applicable legal requirements.
Privacy When a Request Is Not Completed
A quote request may not always result in a completed battery service. Privacy obligations still apply to the information supplied. Records should not be kept indefinitely simply because a customer made an enquiry. Retention should be linked to a reasonable business, legal, security or record-keeping purpose.
Where information is no longer required and no lawful retention reason applies, appropriate deletion or anonymisation can be considered.
POPIA and Accountability
Responsible processing requires more than publishing a notice. POPIA compliance also involves appropriate internal practices, access control, service-provider management and responses to legitimate data-subject requests. Car Batteries 24/7 should review these practices as the business and website systems develop.
For official guidance, customers can use the Information Regulator link provided on this page. For ordinary battery enquiries, return to Car Batteries 24/7 or the services page.
Privacy Contact and Record Identification
When contacting us about privacy, provide enough information to identify the relevant service request, such as the name, contact detail or reference number used at the time. Do not send extra sensitive information merely to prove identity unless it is genuinely required and an appropriate secure process has been explained.
Privacy and Communication Preferences
Service communications should be connected to the customer's request and the contact details supplied for that purpose. If optional marketing communication is introduced, it should be handled separately from operational messages and in accordance with applicable consent, opt-out and POPIA requirements. Customers should be able to distinguish a necessary service update from optional promotional contact.
Good privacy practice also means limiting access to people who need the information for legitimate work. Internal access, service-provider access and administrative records should be proportionate to the purpose for which the information was collected.
